BEFORE GOING INTO TYPES OF CONTRECEPTIVES HERE IS THE VIEWS OF ALL RELIGIONS & PEOPLE WITH NO RELIGION.
-Catholic church hold firmly to the belief that any unnatural forms of birth control are WRONG , Natural Family Planning is an acceptable method and the only time that a contaceptive is considered acceptable is for health issues such as AIDS & HIV etc by use of barrier method (the condom) and is for use by the married couple to protect the wife from contracting the disease.
Going by this veiw and rule herbal methods (as they are natural) could be an option, so could Lunar cycles & NFP
Orthodox Christian Church allows married couples only to make their own decissions on contraceptive methods.
Judaism views vary among Orthodox, Conservative and Reform branches of Judaism. The Orthodox view is that Jewish Talmudic literature prohibits the use of male contraceptive devices that “waste the male seed”, but that female contraception may be permitted for health reasons. Conservative and Reform views authorize social, economic and environmental reasons for contraception use, and note that sexual pleasure between married couples is not a sin. Most Jews believe that condoms and other barrier methods of contraception as well as ‘withdrawal’ are not permissible because they spill the male seed. Male and female sterilization are also not allowed.
Islamic religion has no restrictions on contraceptives as long as it doesnt kill the embryo and the couple are married you can do what you want.
Essentially this means a few herbal options, barrier methods or spermicides.
Hinduism encourages procreation within marriage but contraceptives are not prohibited if the married couple want to use them
Buddisim accepts condomn use
Sikhism supports contraceptive use as long as its not being used to have illicit sexual relationships
Taoism & cofucianism -supports Family planning and in countries like china these rules are FORCED.
Pagan - Approve of forms of contraceptives and abortion.
No Religion- Choose what you want
Physical barrier methods
Barrier methods of contraception stop sperm from getting into the womb (uterus). Options include:
- Male condom
- Female condom
- Diaphragm.
They work by preventing the sperm from reaching and fertilizing the egg.
Male condom
This is a latex (or polyurethane) sheath that covers the erect penis and prevents semen entering the vagina. This is an effective (98 per cent) form of contraception when used correctly and you must remember that once in a while you may just get unlucky as get faulty condom. This means using a condom every time you have sex and putting it on before there is any contact between the penis and vagina. Male condoms are relatively cheap and are available over the counter from supermarkets, pharmacies and sexual health clinics.
Risks - If you are using a condom to prevent an STD from spreading and the condom breaks the couple will be exposed to HIGHER dosages of the STD than if they didnt wear the condom in the first place, so make sure that you buy condoms that are specifically designed for protecting against disease - also avoid petroleum jelly (Vaseline), massage oils, vegetable shortening (Crisco), hand lotion, baby oil or lubricants of any kind that are not water based, because they are known to rapidly break down the contents/make of the condom rendering it more susseptable to breaking.
Avoid using condoms with spermicides as this can increase the risk of genital lesions.
Please be aware that using a condom does not automatically protect from STD's esspecially HIV, some studies (still contraversial) have shown that under a microscope condoms contain holes that are 50x bigger than HIV particles so HIV can still spread.
Condoms have a 10-35% pregnancy failer rate and an even higher failure rate for STD's - however just by people being aware of what to look for and checking the contents on the condom box can INCREASE the effectiveness.
Certain condoms (not all) contain a substance called Nonoxynol, Spermicide or N-9 which increase risk of STIs/STDs - Not all do this and condom use is an important factor in protecting against disease, however, it is important that if disease prevention is the reason for use of the condom that the contents of the condom be looked at for total effectiveness of the condom. Condoms containing this increase the chance dramatically of the STD/STI spreading and also weaken the lining of the condom increasing risk of pregnancy and breakage.
Brands to be particularly careful with when it comes to checking their contents include Trojan, Durex (Durex used to make condoms with this ingredient however after the discovery was made regarding increased risk have stated that they dont make condoms with this ingredient anymore- however always worth double checking before buying or using a condom), Lifestyle and Komodo brands.
Condoms containing this are considered 'safe' by WHO (World Health Organization) only for women who are low risk (good medical health, strong immune system, have not contracted an STD/STI before, do not have irregular periods and have never had Thrush also known as a yeast infection)- for anyone (a lot of the population) that do not fit the standards of low risk- use of a condom containing N-9, Nonoxynol-9, Spermicide is risky and hightens the risk of contracting an STD/STI.
So PLEASE ALWAYS READ CONTENTS OF THE CONDOM BEFORE PURCHASE.
Benifits- There is a higher success rate in protecting against STD/STI's than using nothing at all if you are worried about STIs/STDs (unless the condom breaks so take care) and for pregnancy unless you are aware of your fertility paterns and are confident with them there is a higher success rate for protection against pregnancy than not using anything at all.
This site strongly recommends condoms as protection against STDs/STIs- however advise people to ALWAYS READ THE CONTENTS ON THE BOX FOR THE CONDOMS TO ENSURE THEIR EFFECTIVENESS FOR YOU.

Female condom
This is a loose polyurethane sheath with a flexible ring at each end that sits in the vagina and collects semen. It can be inserted several hours before intercourse and is stronger than the male latex condom, though insertion and use may take some practice. If you use a female condom correctly every time you have sex and dont get unlucky with a faulty one which is rare but more common than you would think, they are 84-95 per cent effective (IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD A CHILD, IF YOU HAVE HAD A CHILD EFFECTIVENESS DROPS TO ONLY 68-80%). Female condoms are available from sexual health clinics
Risks- Doesn't offer the best protection for women that have had previous child births.
Can cause vaginal irritation, recurrent thrush problems and urinary tract infections.
Women may have allergy to the latex, the rubber, the spermicide or all.
If the women goes on top of the man during sexual intercourse their is a HIGH risk of the sheald dislodging, which as a result either will dislodge completely or move enough to let some swimmers past.
Does NOT protect against STIs/STDs
Benifits- Stronger than male condoms and better protection against pregnancy and STIs/STDs

Diaphragm
This is a soft, shallow rubber dome that fits in the vagina, covers the cervix and stops sperm from entering the uterus. The diaphragm must stay in place for at least six hours after intercourse and is 94 per cent effective if used, fitted and positioned correctly. Diaphragms must be fitted by a suitably trained doctor or nurse. They may decrease the risk of STIs, but should not be relied on for this purpose.
Risks as above- you need to add the particular cream, gel, spermicide everytime you have intercourse and if not removed . The risk of toxic shock syndrome is high if it is not removed before 24 hours is up and you run the risk of pregnancy if roomed before 6 hours after intercourse.
Benifits- Aids with protection against pregnancy and may decrese the risk of STIs/STDs

Intrauterine devices (IUD)
An IUD, sometimes known as a coil, is a small plastic device with added copper or hormones which is inserted into your uterus by a doctor. It can stay in the uterus for five to ten years (depending on the type used) and can easily be removed earlier if you want to become pregnant or are having problems.
Both types of IUD are more than 99 per cent effective. They work by changing the lining and environment of the uterus, effectively killing off sperm. If any sperm survive and fertilise an egg, the egg is unable to stick to the wall of the uterus, preventing a pregnancy from continuing.
Risks- Can kill a fertilized egg, causing an inevitable miscarriage(Though this would depend on your veiw on when pregnancy starts is it to you when the sperm fuses with the egg or only after implantation in the uterus when the cells start to form a baby) as stated in Better Health websites for Australia it prevents a pregnancy from continuing not stops a pregnancy.
They can slip out of place and/or become ineffective without signs or warnings.
Can cause Heavy menstrual bleeding, severe cramps, pelvic infections, bacterial vaginosis and inflammation.
Sometimes IUDs become stuck, where various methods have to be used until one is successful, most not very pleasant
Pregnancy sometimes occurs just with any contraceptive this has its risks of that as well, when this occurs because of the IUD preventing the pregnancy continuing where it should in the body the pregnancy often ends up being an ectopic one - Ectopic pregnancies are where babies have attached themselves in the fallopian tube or another area of the body to try to grow because they havent been able to reach where they need to be, this can be very dangerous for both mother and child and in most cases the end result is death for baby or mother or both.
Other times if pregnancy has occured with the IUD in the baby does manage to reach where it is meant to be, however, some of the time the pregnancies end up in true miscarriage or stillbirth due to the chemicals released from the IUD.
The other portion of the time babies are born often with a lower birth rate depending on when pregnancy was discovered and what was done with the IUD.
Offers no protection against STD's
BENIFITS- Better option than none if you dont want a pregnancy, though it is a good idea if you have an IUD to still use a barrier method.

The hormonal (Mirena) Interuterine system
The Mirena slowly and continuously releases a small amount of progestogen, which can thicken the mucus made by the cervix to further block sperm. This may also cause minor effects on the hormones controlling your menstrual cycle. The hormonal IUD (Mirena) is occasionally removed because of hormonal symptoms such as headache, breast tenderness, acne and increased appetite. It does, however, generally result in very light periods. The copper IUD tends to make periods heavier, but doesn’t cause hormonal side effects.
It works by blocking sperm, but if the sperm does reach the egg it your homornes in your body due to the Mirena cause your body to put up its own barriers- thus making it classed by some religions as an abortificant method (though this is based on speculation not clear evidence like other 'abortificant methods' or forms of contreceptives which ever you would like to call them.
RISKS- Can cause excessive amounts of hair growth, is said to ease bleeding issues involved with menstration but in some women it increases problems.
Can cause headaches, breast tenderness and acne.
Not a lot of Doctors will deal with you upon removal time if they didnt put the Mirena in themselves due to fear of being sued if something went wrong.
If something went wrong it could cause numerous problems including possibility of making the women infertile.
If pregnancy did occur the chances of that pregnacy surviving is slim due to the hormone your body is releasing which would cause some development problems (to this reasoning religious groups can justifiably call this method an abortificant method as if pregnancy occured chances would be high it would result in misscarriage or still birth) - however, there is a chance that the baby could survive, misscarriage or stillbirth is NOT garaunteed.
BENIFITS - May aid with Mentrual problems including heavy periods, releases hormone rather than chemical and it is better than no contraceptive if you are trying not to get pregnant. However, as pregnancy is still possible you should still use a barrier method with this form of contraceptive.

Hormonal contraceptives – pills
Hormonal contraception for women is available by prescription in the form of a pill (oral contraceptive). These methods are highly effective (99.7 per cent) if used correctly but, allowing for missed pills or days of ring use, may only be 92 per cent effective. Hormonal contraception may produce side effects and doesn’t protect against STIs.
Works by not allowing the fertilized egg to reach where it needs to reach, thus discontinuing the potential pregnancy- this by some religious groups is often seen as ending in miscarriage that women often dont know about and think are periods. However this concept is one which is debatable and is based merely on individual veiws on the begining of pregnancy/life just as the life long question which was first- the chicken or the egg.... it is something that will ALWAYS have different veiws no matter what evidence may be provided from either side of the board
RISKS- Miscarriage either before the egg has implanted into the uterus(Though this would depend on your veiw on when pregnancy starts is it to you when the sperm fuses with the egg or only after implantation in the uterus when the cells start to form a baby) but sometimes (LOWER CHANCE) after the baby has begun to form after implantation . Hormonal changes not limited to weight gain. Unwanted pregnancy continuing. No protection against STDs. Ineffective when using antibiotics, some other drugs (always check with the chemist if they will interfere with the effectiveness of the contraceptive you are on) and even some medicinal herbs such as garlic will interfere with this form of contraceptive.
BENIFITS- Can help with some hormonal imbalances and menstrual cycles, better than no protection if you dont want to get pregnant though the barrier method is good to use aswell.

Combined pill
This is made up of synthetic forms of the hormones oestrogen and progesterone. The combined pill prevents ovulation, thickens cervical mucus to make it harder for sperm to enter the uterus and changes the lining of the uterus to make it less suitable for a fertilised egg to stick.
There are many types of combined pills with different dose and hormone combinations. This form of contraception is generally not recommended for women who are at risk of heart disease, such as smokers aged over 35 years.
RISKS- Miscarriage(Though this would depend on your veiw on when pregnancy starts is it to you when the sperm fuses with the egg or only after implantation in the uterus when the cells start to form a baby), Hormonal changes. Unwanted pregnancy continuing, sometimes normal miscarriage after a baby has begun to develop. No protection for STDs. Ineffective when using antibiotics, some other drugs (always check with the chemist if they will interfere with the effectiveness of the contraceptive you are on) and even some medicinal herbs such as garlic will interfere with this form of contraceptive
BENIFITS- Can help with some hormonal imbalances and menstrual cycles, better than no protection if you dont want to get pregnant though the barrier method is good to use aswell.
Vaginal ring
This contains similar hormones to the combined pill and works in the same way. A ‘one size fits all’ ring is inserted into the vagina and stays in place for three weeks. During that time, it slowly releases hormones that pass from the vagina into the bloodstream. It’s then removed and a new ring is inserted a week later. The vaginal ring is low dose and saves remembering to take a pill every day. It’s also as easy to insert as a tampon and, like the combined pill, is 99.7 per cent effective if used correctly. Vaginal rings do run the risk of being less effective after birth.
Risks- Blood clots The hormones in NuvaRing/vaginal may cause changes in your blood clotting system which may allow your blood to clot more easily. If blood clots form in your legs, they can travel to the lungs and cause a sudden blockage of a vessel carrying blood to the lungs. Rarely, clots occur in the blood vessels of the eye and may cause blindness, double vision, or other vision problems. The risk of getting blood clots may be greater with the type of progestin in NuvaRing than with some other progestins in certain low-dose birth control pills. It is unknown if the risk of blood clots is different with NuvaRing use than with the use of certain birth control pills.
Often results in a miscarriage due to the fertilized egg not being able to implant properly(Though this would depend on your veiw on when pregnancy starts is it to you when the sperm fuses with the egg or only after implantation in the uterus when the cells start to form a baby) and in turn results in the fertilized egg dying (miscarriage), often the miscarriage is not detected by the women and is mistaken for a early period .
If fertilized egg does not die off the pregnancy could continue, more often than not it will be what is known as an Ectopic pregnancy where the fertilized egg implants itself in the fallopian tupe or another body part to continue the pregnancy because it is unable to implant in the uterus due to the ring. If an ectopic pregnancy occurs this can be life threatening and most of the time result in the death of the baby, mother or both.
In other cases the egg will manage to implant into the uterus, this will NOT be an ectopic pregnancy but will be a normal pregnancy continuing- however a large portion of the time the pregnancies result in miscarriage due to the hormones released from the ring which could cause developmental problems in the fetus- babys can sometimes be born at the end of the pregnancy and may or may not have some health or weight issues.
Nuvaring is not recommending for use by women who are breastfeeding, and women who have given birth should wait 4-6 weeks before using the Nuvaring.
Nuvaring is largely associated with people that develop heart disease and those people often die as a result.
Nuvaring may cause Stroke and/or heart attacks.
It is not recommended for use for people with blood pressure problems as problems can become worse.
Breast cancer has been diagnosed more often in women who have used Nuvaring and/or the pill (mini or normal)
Women with breast cancer should NOT use the Nuvaring or any form of the pill as it can make cancer worse.
Women who use Nuvaring or the pill (mini or normal) have higher chance of developing gall bladder disease.
In rare cases Nuvaring and pill (min or normal) have been found to cause Liver tumors (benign - meaning non cancerous) but still dangerous and possibly deadly.
Common side effects of the Nuvaring are Nausia, Weight gain, head aches, vaginal secretion, vaginal infections and irritation.
Benifits- Gives more prevention against unwanted pregnancy than no protection at all

Mini pill
This contains only a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone. It makes the cervical mucus thicker, which prevents sperm from entering the uterus. The mini pill must be taken every day at the same time and is not as effective as the combined pill. It’s usually suitable for women who either experience side effects from oestrogen or need to take it for health reasons.
Risks - Breast cancer has been diagnosed more often in women who have used any form of the pill and the Nuvaring
Women with Breast cancer should not use any form of the pill or the Nuvaring due to the risk of making the cancer worse.
Women who use the pill (mini or normal) or Nuvaring have a higher chance of developing gall bladder disease
In rare cases forms of the pill (mini or normal) and the Nuvaring have been found to cause Liver tumors (benign- meaning non cancerous) but still dangerous, and possibly deadly.
Common side effects of mini pill are irregular periods, some women it stops the periods, may causes skin spots, tender breasts, headaches, dizziness, depression & weight gain, pregnancy often ectopic, cysts on the ovaries, can sometimes result in heavy ongoing bleeding.
If miscarriage does not occur the pregnancy could continue, more often than not it will be what is known as an Ectopic pregnancy where the fertilized egg implants itself in the fallopian tupe or another body part to continue the pregnancy because it is unable to implant in the uterus due to the ring. If an ectopic pregnancy occurs this can be life threatening and most of the time result in the death of the baby, mother or both.
In other cases the egg will manage to implant into the uterus, this will NOT be an ectopic pregnancy but will be a normal pregnancy continuing- however a large portion of the time the pregnancies result in miscarriage due to the hormones released from the ring which could cause developmental problems in the fetus- babys can sometimes be born at the end of the pregnancy and may or may not have some health or weight issues
Other drugs such as antibiotics and even some foods such as garlic (a natural antibiotic) can interfere with its effectiveness -always check with your pharmisist about the interaction between the drugs before taking any medications.
If a women vomits within 2 hours of taking the pill another pill should be taken or insufficiant amounts are absorbed into the body rendering it almost useless.
Mini-pill often stops or significantly reduces a breastfeeding mother milk suply.
Benifits- Offers better protection against unwanted pregnancy than no contraceptives. Can significantly reduce menstrual bleeding for women who suffer really heavy periods. Can improve or stop PMS- can improve acne in some people. Mini-pill is said to be safe during breastfeeding, however this is contraversial as some health sites state several risks involved with use of this pill along with other ones- so in other words use at your own risk.
Hormonal contraceptives – implants and injections
Hormonal contraceptives for women are also available as implants and injections. These methods are more effective than other hormonal methods, but may produce side effects and don’t protect against STIs. Male injectable contraceptives are currently being trialled.
Implanon
This is a hormone implant that is inserted under the skin at the inner side of the upper arm. It contains etonogestrel, a progesterone-like hormone that prevents ovulation and hinders sperm from entering the cervix by changing cervical mucus. Implanon lasts for three years, is close to 100 per cent effective and is suitable for most women who can’t tolerate synthetic oestrogens. The device is inserted by a doctor under local anaesthetic.
It works by preventing the body from releasing eggs for the sperm to fertilize- however there have been a few cases where the body still produces the eggs resulting in unplanned pregnancy
Risks- It is said to be close to 100% effective but if you look it up on Google you will find several cases where it has FAILED, there have also been several news articles about the failure of the contraceptive and I myself have had the implanon be unsuccessful and the pregnancy ended in miscarriage due to developmental problems in the fetus as a result of the implanon. So please dont always trust that it will work like anything else back it up with other forms of contraceptives if you do not want a pregnancy.
There are less cases of Ectopic pregnancy with this (however is still a risk) and more case of pregnancy continuing and resulting in miscarriage or birth of babies which are often underweight with developmental issues. Often pregnancies are not detected until women are further along as the hormones released by the implanon cover the signs of the baby which have resulted in several documented cases of women who do not show at all until the implanon is removed and the stomach starts to expand. The hormone release can also hide hormone levels in the blood which normally would indicate pregnancy. So if you suspect you may be pregnant during use of the implanon and the blood tests reads negative find a Doctor who will give you an ultrasound request form and get the ultrasound done just to be sure.
Miscarriage still occurs often (Though this would depend on your veiw on when pregnancy starts is it to you when the sperm fuses with the egg or only after implantation in the uterus when the cells start to form a baby) with the implanon as it is what the churches like to dub abortificant method as it works by not allowing a fertilized egg (pregnancy) to implant properly (continue) if the body has managed to produce the egg through the homones which are designed to prevent this, which results in miscarriage- often it is not detectable by women and can be mistaken as a period.
Causes changes to mentrual cycle for some women it stops the period or makes it lighter, others it makes the period longer, heavier and sometimes results in ongoing bleeding.
Sometimes the Implanon moves position and causes complicated removal.
Should note be used by people who have cancer because it can cause the cancer to grow and spread
Increased risk of Breast cancer in users.
Can sometimes cause Jaundice, Gallstone Formation, Porphyria, Lupus, HUS which causes kidney failure, Sydenhams Chorea, herpes, hearing loss, DVT (Deep Vain Thrombosis).
Small amounts of the Implanon Hormones can be transfered through the breastmilk however studies thus far have found no delays in development or ill effects in the children- it is stated that more information is needed on its safety but at this stage it appears a safer option for babies than some other contreceptive methods.
Common side effects of Implanon include- mood swings, overally emotional, nervousness, depression, libido decrease, abdominal pain, dizziness, hair loss, irregular bleeding, breast tenderness, head ache, achne, gas in stomach and intestines, implant area pain, itchiness, vommiting.
BENIFITS- Provides continuess high pregnancy protection for 3 years, it allows for long lasting birth control without tubal litigation.
Studies show no risk so far to babies if a women is breastfeeding (though more studies still need to be done). Implanon can sometimes improve a womens sex drive and life.
Manufacturers and Doctors state that no other birth control is required as this is effective enough on its own (though from the several failure cases I have read about including my own - not using another birth control method as well is at your own risk)
It has fewer ups and downs that other hormonal birth control methods (taking this into account it still effects some women really badly it will just depend on how each womens body interacts with the implanon).

DPMA injections (Depo-Provera/Depo-Ralovera)
These are long-acting (12 to 14 weeks) injectable contraceptives containing the hormone progestogen. They prevent ovulation, block sperm by thickening the mucus made by the cervix and cause changes in the lining of the uterus to make it unsuitable for a fertilised egg to stick. DPMA injections are highly effective and provide a very private method of contraception.
It prevents the egg from releasing from the ovary.
RISKS-
Sometimes causes irregular and prolonged periods, does not protect against STIs.
It causes delay in fertility once treatment is ceased up to a maximum delay of 2 years from ceasing treatment.
Common side effects include- weight gain, periods decreasing or stopping, headaches, change in sexual interest, mood changes and side effects can last for up to 3 months after ceasing treatment.
Bone Mass loss - though studies have shown this to be reversible over time once treatment is ceased.
Low chance of pregnancy continuing past egg fertilization if it occurs. Often would result in an un recognized miscarriage often mistaken as a period. However once in a while (rarely) it will result in pregnancy continuing resulting in miscarriage further along, ectopic pregnancy or childbirth.
A drug/medication known as fluoxitine also known as prozac cancels out the shot (in effect if you are on this drug the DPMA will be useless)
BENIFITS- Decreases chances of uterine cancer in women, very effective in preventing pregnancy. It often reduces or stops periods and reduces pain and discomfort associated with this.. Reduces chances of Iron deficiency animea, is a treatment for PMS, painful periods and endometriosis.
Can be used sometimes (rarely) and with success to prevent a threatened miscarriage- this should only be done on strict guidelines and advice by your doctor as you will only receive a certain amount of the shot for a short period of time- if pregnancy is discovered shots should be discontinued.

Female sterilisation
This procedure blocks the fallopian tubes, preventing an egg from passing down the tube and being fertilised. The two common surgical methods used are:
- Tubal ligation (having your tubes tied) – performed under general anaesthetic
- Essure (having small coils inserted) – performed under local anaesthetic.
2nd risk is breathing issues, allergic reactions and heart problems
If you manage to bypass all problems/risk associated with during and after sugery you then have the risks associated with the sterilisation itself.
Incomplete closing of the tubes which can result in normal (high risk) or ectopic pregnancy at a later stage.
Highest risk for ectopic pregnancy if a pregnancy occurs after the process.
BENIFITS- Have decreased risk of developing ovarian cancer if this procedure is done. Chances in falling pregnant decrease but are still like any other contraceptive method (NOT GARUNTEED).

Vasectomy (male sterilisation)
This involves blocking sperm by cutting the tubes they pass through from the testes to the penis.
RISKS- If the vasectomy is done by a doctor who does fewer than 50 vasectomies a year the failure rate is as high as 17% or more
Men CAN still produce sperm which are able to fertilize the egg for up to 3 months sometimes more after the procedure has been completed - tests should be done regularly by the doctore to ensure that the man is infertile.
Their is a low chance (but still happens enough to be considered a possible risk) of the males body healing itself after a few years and becoming fertile again
Studies have shown an increased risk in prostate cancer, alzhiemers - (OUT OF 47 men with Alzhiemers 19 had had vasectomies and the onset of symptoms had begun shortly after the procedure).
Medical Revirsals although possible can be risky and men can sometimes die having the reversal procedure done so if you get a vasectomy please be sure that you do NOT want to have anymore children and if you think it might be possible that you may change your mind save the money up before the procedure and store some sperm at a clinic for future use.
BENIFITS- Success rates are significantly higher than womens sterilization procedures and this procedure carries the lowest risk of pregnancy or health problems than most contraceptive methods. Medical revirsals are possible

Emergency contreception
Sometimes it is necessary to prevent pregnancy after sex, rather than before: for example, when a pill is forgotten or a condom breaks, or in the case of rape. Emergency contraception, also known as the ‘morning after pill’, is a hormonal method of contraception that prevents or delays ovulation in that cycle. It may also stop a fertilised egg from sticking to the wall of the uterus. It prevents 85 per cent of pregnancies that would have otherwise occurred.
There are different types of emergency contraception available. The most commonly used form, a single pill containing the hormone progestogen, can be prescribed by a doctor or purchased over the counter at most pharmacies. Emergency contraception is best used within 72 hours of unprotected sex – the sooner within the 72 hours it is taken, the more effective it is. It can be taken up to 120 hours after unprotected sex, but will be less effective.
RISKS- Can cause miscarriage of the pregnancy before the fertilized egg implants(Though this would depend on your veiw on when pregnancy starts is it to you when the sperm fuses with the egg or only after implantation in the uterus when the cells start to form a baby), possibility (VERY LOW) of causing miscarriage to an already developing fetus..
There is a very HIGH number of reported Ectopic pregnancies after use of the morning after pill
Risk of it transfering into breastmilk for breastfeeding mums is high and the safety of it is contreversial (some sites say its safe and others say to not take it during breastfeeding)
Common side effects include feeling sick, vommitting, diarreah, headache, fatigue, abdominal pain, dizziness, breast tenderness and delayed periods.
BENIFITS- Trys to prevent sperm and egg joining- if they do join their is a high chance of discontinuing a pregnancy very early before the fertilized egg is able to implant and the baby can start to form.

Natural methods
Natural family planning is based on an understanding of the menstrual cycle. Methods include monitoring cervical mucus changes, body temperature changes and rhythm or cycle calculations to help determine when a woman is most likely to be fertile each month.
The effectiveness of natural family planning varies in relation to whether one or a combination of methods is used. Confidence, correct use and effectiveness improve the longer the method is used. Natural family planning methods, however, do not protect against STIs.
RISKS- If not correctly educated on your cycle patterns and signs you can risk pregnancy. Sometimes cycles and signs can be really hard to interperet even for a professional so you can still fall pregnant in this case- if you do not want to fall pregnant it is best to either abstain from intercourse until your charts become easier to interperet or to use other forms of contraceptives.
It does not protect you against STIS.
BENIFITS- If used correctly can be up to 99.9% effective and if used with other forms of contraceptives is VERY EFFECTIVE.

My Monthly cycles (enables you to chart everything from periods, fertility to doctors appointments) http://www.mymonthlycycles.com/login.jsp
Lunar Cycle method- this is best used with the natural family planning method as the Lunar cycle beleives that their is between 2-3 times during a month that a women can become pregnant - their normal biological cycle length time and the lunar time (which is when the moon is in the same position it was in when you were born)-they also teach that a women doesnt just ovulate when the menstrual cycle predicts but it can ovulate when the body is feeling stress and is effected by the womens emotions and the moon. This combined with the NFP method (tracking of the menstrual cycle) is really good because it can give you more time speculations as to when you might have the risk of becoming pregnant out of your usual menstrual time frame.
RISKS- If not used with another method can be ineffective, because they teach how to track fertility in other times outside of your usual menstrual cycle times- it does not cover you for your menstrual cycle times.
BENIFITS- If used with another method like NFP can be effective in preventing or planning pregnancy by identifying times which you can become pregnant outside of your normal menstrual cycle time frame.

Herbal Contraceptives
Wild Yam- if taken daily, needing around 1-2 months to establish effectiveness can act as a herbal natural contraceptive.
Doses must be taken twice daily, every day and not fogoton- if it is forgotten it must be taken as soon as possible and the women must remember that because she missed a dose she may be fertile for up to 2 months until the wild Yam builds up in her system again to protect her against pregnancy. If you miss your dose it is recommended that you use another form of contraceptive or use abstinance as a method to avoid pregnancy.
It is advised you read the book 'Wild Yam Birth Control without Fear by Willa Shaffer' a midwife in the United States.
RISKS- The woman may have an allergy to wild yam.
If the wild yam isnt given enough time to build up it is ineffective, if doses are missed, not taken on time or not taken properly it is ineffective. If a dosage is missed you have up to 2 months of RISK ZONE where you have a chance of becoming pregnant until you build up the wild yam in your system again and will need to either use other forms of contraceptives for the 2 months or abstain from sex
BENIFITS- If used properly is as effective as the pill. Its all natural and safer than most contreceptives on the market.

Wild Carrot Seed- acts as a morning after pill, works by stopping the fertilized egg from implanting. First dose should be taken 8 hours from being exposed to the sperm and the 2nd dose should be taken as needed.
RISKS- Tastes bad, is a natural abortificant (works by discontinuing a pregnancy before it has a chance to implant and grow) resulting in early miscarriage often mistaken as early period. Can be poisionous to you if you do not know what you are doing and do not follow directions carefully.
BENIFITS- Proven natural emergency contraceptives as effective as the Morning After Pill

NEEM-
Natural contreceptive for Men & Women Studies have proven neem to be as effective as spermicide or a womens contreceptive pill.
Neem has to be used by men daily without missing a dose for 6 weeks before it becomes close to 100% effective as a contraceptive and then needs to be continued until the man wishes to be fertile. Fertility returns 6 weeks after discontinueing the capsules.
Dosage is 2 Neem Leaf Capsules 3 times a day before meals. Giving the doses 4-6 weeks to become effective as a contraceptive. It works by making the sperm incapable of fertilizing the egg.
Women can use a cream, though other methods are available- speak to a herbalist or natropath
RISKS- None found yet but research is still being done on this method of contraceptive and you take doses at your own risk.
BENIFITS- Proven to prevent pregnancy in 20 out of 20 married men in India and fertility has returned to all of them 6 weeks after ceasing treatment
